I have a NIKON COOLPIX 550. It is brand new, I got it for Christmas. I turned it on yesterday and it said lens error and now it hasn’t beenworking and the lens won’t close. Nothing happened to it that I am aware of to make it not work. I don’t think I stilll have the box, though. What can I do or where can I go to get this fixed?

It might have been dropped or knocked and the lens might be misaligned. Try putting a gentle side to side turning torque on the lens as you switch the camera on and off - pull it outward first. Also if the battery is not delivering full current it might not be able to operate the lens, but that is unlikely on near new camera.
The last thing that you can try is to remove the battery for a day or two with the camera left on and then re-insert the battery. That is like re-booting a computer. If it works you will have to re-enter all your settings.
Are the batteries fresh/charged? If they are and you still have the same problem: Take it back where it was purchased from. Most likely you will need a receipt. You should have atleast a year warranty with it from Nikon. Do not attempt to push the lens back in yourself!
