For People That Have/know How To Work A Nikon Coolpix Camera?
Posted by Joseph in Question & AnswerI have a nikon coolpix s51…whats the best mode/setting to have for when you take pictures at a concert? i can never seem to get it just right. They come out and everything, i just want them to look better and clearer. Whats a good setting for that?

The closest would probably be one of the night scene modes, but it depends on the lighting used. You could use aperture priority and open your aperture all the way (smallest f number), but really, no matter what setting you use, you’d have to hold it very still to get anything decent. The combination of dim lighting, fast motion on the stage, and telephoto lens setting if you’re very far back, will give you dim and blurry pictures no matter what. And the dim light will give you digital noise.
Okay, there are a few things you could try:
Set your ISO to the highest number (but expect some digital noise because of it).
Use your exposute compensation on the minus side if the lighting is dim. This will keep your camera from trying to turn an overall dim scene into an average daylit scene.
Lean against something sturdy if you can to reduce camera movement.
Hold the camera up to your face instead of at arms length to shoot.
Hold your breath while shooting.
Oh yes, and don’t bother with flash unless you’re close to the stage. It won’t reach beyond about 10-20 feet.
